Climbing the Osorno Volcano

The weather on southern Chile’s volcanoes is strongly influenced by the Pacific Ocean and the Andean relief. Frontal systems bring frequent precipitation for much of the year and, with altitude, wind, cloud cover and the likelihood of snow increase, favoring rapid changes in mountain conditions.

Description

Climbing the Osorno Volcano is to live one of the classic mountaineering experiences of southern Chile’s Andes, making your way up its volcanic slopes and glacier to reach one of the most emblematic summits of the Los Lagos Region. The program includes a night at the Teski Refuge, so the climbing day starts from the mountain itself and you can enjoy, unhurried, the atmosphere before the ascent. The experience begins the previous afternoon with the transfer to the refuge, where the group shares dinner, checks the equipment and plans the ascent together with the guide. When conditions allow, sunset over Lake Llanquihue and the neighboring volcanoes offers a privileged preview of the day ahead. Before dawn the ascent begins, progressing from volcanic terrain onto the glacier, where technical equipment allows the group to move safely under the guide’s lead.
